S&OP Success Case Study at Gordon Manufacturing
About this Webinar
Integrating Financial Forecasting with the Sales and Operations Planning Process
Gordon Manufacturing is part of the Office Furniture Business Unit of Leggett & Platt. It primarily serves as a component supplier to major office chair manufacturers with key customers near its home site in Grand Rapids, MI. Gordon was founded in the early 1930’s and it’s first products included items such as sprinkler heads, bottle stoppers, deluxe radiator caps, couplers for aircraft carriers, and hand-operated washing machines. Around 1970, the company began to manufacture components for the office furniture industry such as tilt mechanisms and bases. During this time the company became a leader in the design, development and manufacturing of a broad range of office furniture components.
As part of an initiative to improve business planning, Leggett & Platt phased out a conventional annual budgeting process and implemented a process that integrates financial forecasting with the S&OP process. Gordon Manufacturing was quick to see the advantages at creating a one number plan for the business. Gordon celebrated their Certification as a capable S&OP process in December of 2012. The key to their success was committed leadership, capable project management, appropriate technology, and a total team approach.
